RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES OF ON DUTY NURSE
•To prepare admission paper of the patient.
•Take patient`s consent for surgery.
•Check patient`s blood pressure, pulse and temperature.
•To give all injections and pre-medications as advised by the operating surgeon.
•To give hospital gown to the patient.
•Ensure removal of all ornaments before surgery.
•Check patients starvation status before surgery.
•Prepare and check anesthesia trolley.
•Help anesthetist for spinal as well as general anesthesia as instructed.
•To set vienflow and injections for surgery.
•Verify operation theater fumigation before surgery.
•Verify autoclaving of clothes and instruments required for surgery.
•To collect necessary disposables from the doctor.
•To check oxygen, nitrous and carbon dioxide cylinders before starting the surgery.
•To check working of ot light, suction machine, defibrillator, syringe pump and multipara monitor.
•To switch on ultraviolet sterilizer tube half an hour before surgery.
•To take patient in the operation theater before the anesthetist enters the operation theater.
•To connect iv fluids and monitor cables to the patient.
•To note down all the medicines and disposables used during surgery.
•To display patient information before the surgery on the board.
•To check emergency drug box and expiry dates of medicines, disposables, injections and dressing materials and inform the concerned person before the stock reaches a minimum level.
•To help in surgery by being a skillful assistant  .
•To help in shifting the patient to the ward after the surgery is over.
•Connect monitor on the patient in the recovery room and note the vital parameters to inform the anesthetist and the operating surgeon.
•To maintain post operative input output and vital parameters chart.
•To help ayabai in cleaning the operation theater after surgery.
•To clean the instruments thoroughly as per protocol after surgery.
•To confirm that the specimen is sent for histopathology after surgery with proper accurate labeling.
•To check medicines against prescription issued by the doctor.
•To make a note of the details of the surgery in the ot register.
•To take post operative round with the consultant and follow the instructions given.
•To prepare and follow the checklist for the next surgery.
•To dispose off biomedical waste as per protocol and guidelines.
•To educate new and junior staff about universal biosafety guidelines and hospital protocols.
•To help in discharge of the patient and also explaining instructions on discharge to the patient.
•To call up the patient and inquire about the well being 2 days after discharge.
